Bio

In my academic experience, I was able to explore the field of Marketing, Marketing Education, and Training Specialization. However, it was not until I landed in Training Specialization that I discovered the field that I enjoy most and that is Human Resource Management. I was relieved when I finally found my professional interest because I had gone through so many changes trying to find it. It has honestly lead me to one of my many life mantras which is, “You cannot know if you like something until you try it and at least you can say that you tried.” I was able to discover that I enjoyed Human Resource Management through, the Organizational Behavior course taught by Ryan Klinger, who I can honestly say was one of the best professors that I have had in my entire experience at Old Dominion University.
Professionally, I have learned that I am a “people-person” and I enjoy helping people grow or step outside of their comfort zones. My first job in college was at Express in MacArthur Center and I had grown and stepped out of my comfort zone in my roles there as a sales associate and a part-time sales leader. In working at Express for almost 5 years, I was able to learn how to encourage both sales associates and customers to be confident in their work and in what they are wearing. I would hate when customers would say, “Oh, I cannot wear that because of my body type,” or when sales associates would say, “I’m too scared to talk to customers.” When it came to customers, I would always tell them that when you are confident in what you are wearing, no one can tear you down, so don’t wear anything that you are uncomfortable in but do not be afraid to push the envelope either. In all transparency, it did take me a long time to get acclimated with talking to strangers everyday, but once I realized that I only have to talk to them for a couple of minutes and possibly never talk to them again, unless they like me, I realized that I had to make the most out of every interaction.
Personally, I aspire to be an entrepreneur in some way, but I have not really explored what I am passionate about in that sense. I promised myself that I would take the time to determine what type of business that I want to start once I graduate. However, for now, I am leaning towards starting a cosmetic line that will hopefully lead to my larger entrepreneurial dream of opening my own beauty supply store.
