Entrepreneurship
Senior Project: Merchandise Retailing
Magic-Beauty-Business-PlanIn my capstone course for my previous major, we were assigned to create a business plan for a new start up of our choice in the Hampton Roads area. In the weeks leading up to our final presentation to a panel of entrepreneurs, we compiled the different parts of a business plan to include an: operations plan, marketing plan, management plan, merchandising plan, and a retail operations plan.
In hindsight, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to take this course because I truly learned invaluable information that other people pay to learn. The information that I learned in this course will support my future goal of becoming an owner of multiple businesses in the Hampton Roads area.
This course required the use and development of multiple skills that employers are seeking. The main skill gained during this course was creating and editing reports, as it was the central assignment in the course. We had to demonstrate computer software proficiency through the usage of multiple software to create the documents, spreadsheets, and supplemental mock-ups like a floor plan and a logo. Lastly, we had to communicate our plan verbally by presenting our business plan to local entrepreneurs. This presentation was formatted as a role play with the entrepreneurs being business loan lenders, almost in a shark tank setting, and we as the business had to pitch our ideas to the lenders to gain funding.
