Here is a deeper look into my college experience! As I mentioned on my Home page, I have my B.A. in English with a concentration in Applied Language Studies. For a more personal view into my life, I am 21 years old, a lover of coffee, books, and Jesus, and I am also engaged to my high school sweetheart! I am moving to Richmond, Virginia in June and we will get married in March of ’21.
Throughout my time at ODU, I worked really hard to stay involved. My biggest time commitment was to the ODU Monarch Marching Band! I was in my band program in high school as well, and it has always been an important part of my life. Playing under the stadium lights to 20,000 people is an indescribable feeling. I also played for the Basketball Band and have the fortune of traveling to conference tournaments across the country as well as the Men’s NCAA tournament in 2019.
I was also a part of a few academic-based organizations. I was a member of the Honors College and a member of Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society). I wrote for the school newspaper for a short time, as well as attended weekly bible study meetings with the ODU branch of Cru.
For my community involvement, I attended church weekly at Crossroads Church. I volunteered in their Children’s ministry on Sunday mornings as well as attended their Supper and Sessions throughout the semester. I also have worked a handful of jobs over the years. I began working as a Preschool teacher at The Goddard School in Virginia Beach in December of 2017. I also began working through another church ministry childcare. While the latter position ended up closing out, I began working as a Student-Athlete tutor through the Athletic Department of ODU and I have worked both of these jobs for the last year.
All of this involvement has shaped ODU and this area of Hampton Roads into my new community. I truly have had a second home here. Now, three years later, as I graduate and look forward to what is next, I am closing out so many influential parts of my life. I have been a student year-round for the last three years. I am a Monarch in my bones, and I have a hard time seeing myself in my next position. I have formed myself into a member of this community and it is thanks to my opportunities through ODU that I have been able to achieve so much.
