Making Connections
Old Dominion University’s LeADERS program connects students to courses and real world experiences in the areas of: Leadership, Academic Internship, Diversity, Entrepreneurship, Research, or Service Learning. This LeADERS ePortfolio shares how my experiences in the areas of Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Academic Internship have supported my personal and professional development.”
Reflecting Back
- I joined LeADERs at Old Dominion University because I wanted to graduate with unique employable skills. This program allowed me to develop the top skills that are desired by employers and broaden my ways of what I have done in college. It stood out to me how this program allows students to participate in high-impact learning experiences, such as the leaders courses that are a part of it, priority access to career fairs, and individualized and group ePortfolio support.
- One significant challenge that I encountered during my LeADERs courses and related experience was overloaded coursework and ePortfolio issues. To overcome this, I made sure I had asked questions if I did not understand something during courses and stayed after for tutoring sessions. I went to career workshops that were held at ODU to help me in building my resume and creating an ePortfolio to showcase my experiences to future employers and graduate programs.
- Significant successes that I had during LeADERS courses and related experiences by attending career workshops, making appointments with LeADERS staff and ePortfolio assistants online or in person.
- I see all of my specific LeADERS experiences connecting with one another by each of them providing materials in which will help me in my future career endeavors. Each course under LeADERS has provided me materials and skills to help become a professional leader.
Looking forward
- My professional goals after graduation is to begin working in my career field as an QMHP that works with children or adults with their health needs. I then plan to further my education within a broader Human Service range to become a Health social worker or a health nurse.
- The career workshops that helped me build my resume, create an ePortfolio to reflect and showcase my experiences, and the career fair helped me prepare in achieving my goals after graduation. These resources allowed me to be able to know how to work well in a team structure while planning, organizing, and prioritizing my work.
