MGMT 325: Contemporary Organizations and Management

Contemporary Organizations Management course teaches how employees work to their full potential to be able to make decisions and implement changes without the approval of their supervision. Taking this course taught me the fundamentals of the managerial process from a macro and micro perspective. These fundamentals include organizing, controlling, planning, and leading.  One of the major assignments during this course was my job shadow project. As an assignment for this class, I got to opportunity to job shadow one of my managers at  Sentara Careplex hospital, where I work as a nurse care partner. This assignment gave me an opportunity to see the business side of the hospital.  During this job shadow experience, I attended meetings on hospital policies and was in attendance during a Webex meeting with a team of leaders from the different departments in the hospital.  I learned so much during the course of this job shadow experience. I gained a better understanding of the policies and procedures of the hospital, learned the current trends of this healthcare organization, meet with some amazing leaders in healthcare administration as well as explored some potential careers path within the hospital. It was a great experience and it helped me to land my internship at the same location with my same manager.
