Leadership

This component of the LeADERS Program enables students to develop relationship skills such as collaboration and interpersonal communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, and change management. In order to gain credit for completion of the Leadership component of the program, I enrolled in CPS415 – WMST 495, Women in Leadership.

The Women in Leadership Course examines the difference between male and female leaders in business / economics, politics, entertainment, and government.

In this assignment, I was able to develop a deeper understanding of the challenges women have to face while climbing to the top. As a man, I have developed a deeper respect for women who sit in top executive seats because of the additional obstacle they have to overcome. Rosalind Brewer, COO of Starbucks and former President and CEO of Sam’s Club, inspired me in this research because of the way she navigated two minority identities (woman and African American). I’ve learned how effective perseverance, confidence, and competitiveness can take someone in the world of leadership.

Learning Outcomes Assignment

Instructions: List five of the most important leadership concepts you learned (and from which specific assignment did you learn this – using the correct title of the assignment) in this class, and identify how you can use them in your current or future career. This assignment should not be less than ten pages of text.  Number your pages and your learning outcomes, immediately followed by how you will use what you learned in your career. DO NOT DEVIATE FROM MY EXPECTED FORMAT:

In this assignment, I was able to reflect on the lessons I’ve learned in this course. Each page explicitly explains the skills I learned and how I intend to use these skills in my future career.

Through my improvement in research, writing, and presentation skills from this course, I am able to demonstrate a working knowledge of leadership theory and characteristics, I am able to assess my personal leadership skills, I am able to develop a personal philosophy of leadership, and I am able to understand leadership and the complexity that is involved with change and progress.

With an A in CPS 415, this course has equipped me to approach leadership in the field of Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs with a deeper lens and a deeper understanding on how to navigate my personal leadership style in a field where there is a large representation of women.
