Formal Writing

College has been a huge transition that I still have not fully gotten used to, even though it is almost the end of the first semester. However, I feel that in this little amount of time, I have already grown immensely not just as a writer, but also as a learner. In high school, I was nonchalant about things like quizzes and tests; every now and then I would study an hour or two for a hard test, but that really was the extent of it. However, now that I am in college, I have learned that I can no longer be so nonchalant about my academics, nor should I be. Once I graduate, I would like to do something in the biology field, as that is what I am majoring in, but more specifically in botany and conservation. However, majoring in biology takes a lot of effort, as there is a lot of memorization involved. Moreover, I still need to retain the information I am learning, meaning that I can not just study for one test and forget everything the next day, I must continue studying this information so that it is embedded in my head for the future. I have also learned to be more involved while in college. In high school, especially towards the last two years, I was not involved in any sports or clubs, nor did I really care to. Even though I am only in one club at the moment (Botany Club), it was still a big step for me as I would never put myself out there in high school. While these steps are small, I am proud of everything I have accomplished thus far and hope that I can continue this trend until I finally graduate.
