Your First Semester
- Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now.
-Ive grown from being shy and independent to someone who seeks friends and teachers for help.
- What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain.
-I was expecting to have As and Bs but not everything will go the way it’s planned. I realized that for some classes, good is not enough, I have to do more in order to get the grade that I want.
- What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago?
-Something I wished I knew 14 weeks ago was how to properly study, especially for sociology.
Study Habits
- How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester?
-I studied more at the beginning of the Semester than I do now.
- How have your study habits changed?
-progressed from intense study to more subtle study. This was due to the fact that I used to study in the car and now study at the library. When I’m in the car, time seems to fly by, yet when I’m at the library, I can move more freely and am not always rushing.
- Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester.
-I learned that being in the library can really be beneficial.
- What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester?
-I will continue to study in the library, and also read through the lessons beforehand so that I am already aware of what’s going to be taught.
Health Professions Learning Community
- This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.
- On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between content, and subjects discussed. Discuss the ways in which these courses are tied together.
-History was tied with Sociology. Both of the teachers explain the materials similarly to try to connect them with one another.
For example, they try to connect the years and its events, giving them examples for each class. They also mention each other(the lectures) so that we get the hint of what they mean.
Parallel Plan
- This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea for possible parallel majors to your current intended major.
- Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why?
-Speech Language Pathology- The helping children part of the introduction caught my attention. I love working with kids and I also love helping people in general.
– Nuclear Medicine Technology- I thought it was cool, and that the things that they do seem interesting and fun.
- What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place?
-Having a backup plan is nice to have because if my major doesn’t go as planned, i will have something I can do instead. Something that I will still like to do even if it’s not Dental Hygiene.
- How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major?
-They are both in the health field. And they consist of the same prerequisites as Dental HYgiene.
