Write a
paragraph about each situation, indicating how you behaved along each of the
five traits you listed above. That is, record how you behaved with regard to
each trait for each situation.

Situation 1 – Chatting with
neighbor outside over coffee.

A few mornings ago, my neighbor and I ran
into each other on our front porches while drinking coffee. We chatted about
our mornings and what the day ahead had in store. This is a bit different than
the usual personality I hold dear. As a fairly social introvert I like keeping
in touch with people. However, I don’t truly enjoy seeing people every day, for
an extended period of time. This coffee chat time in our front yard was out of
character for me for sure but I was perceptive that my neighbor wanted to chat
and relax with coffees in hand. I was and still am very empathetic, realizing
my neighbors’ desires to connect and putting my discomforts aside while being
able to truly feel what she may feel if I decided to stay or go.

Situation 2 – going to get
mail from mailbox and avoiding contact with neighbors I don’t like.

This afternoon while walking to the mailbox I
ran into a neighbor with whom I do not get along. I decided to tilt my head
sideways as to avoid eye contact. In this situation I let my introversion take
hold, and my determination to get me home in a timely manner. Because these
neighbors are so cruel and ridiculous, my empathy for them is just not there. I
do not care about their feeling, but I do care about how I am viewed as a
decent person.

Situation 3– Keeping a calm
situation with my mother while visiting her.

My daughter and I visited my mother and
father this past week in San Diego, CA. My dad was recently diagnosed with
Prostate cancer. He is moving forward with treatments as we speak. When dealing
with my mother during this visit, I made sure to utilize my great sense of
perception of the weight of the situation and empathy to really feel what she
must be going through. I usually am determined to help her understands
something she dopes isn’t right, or she needs to reevaluate. But this time,
with my dad’s health scare, I made the trip as calm as possible.

Situation 4– Reconnecting
with an old friend and visiting with her new baby for the first time.

I was perceptive in this situation that my
friend wanted to get together even though I would have been ok not getting
together. Our friendship has lessened over the years and my introverted side
would be fine relaxing instead of socializing. However, a combination of
empathy and introversion prompted me to suggest meeting at my parent’s house
for a coffee get together with our children. This was I wouldn’t have to be too
social, and I would still have the ability to reconnect for a shorter amount of
time.

Situation 5 – My dad
telling me over the phone that the doctors think he has prostate cancer.

With this situation my dad called me late at
night when I was supposed to be in a study session. I was unclear of the reason
for the call but was perceptive of the somber nature in his voice. Empathy led
me to feel shocked and heartbroken as my dad told me the doctors results.
Creativity was not present in this moment, and neither was determination.

Next, determine whether you feel your
behavior was consistent or inconsistent, and why?

I feel that my behavior in all situations is
quite consistent. The only time my behavior was not consistent was when someone’s
feelings could be hurt or when I am in shock. I did not want to hurt my
neighbor’s feelings by ending socializing time with her too fast, so I stayed
out and chatted longer than I would have if it were up to me. And instead of
feeling creative and determined, I was so shocked by my father’s news about
cancer that I was purely filled with an empathetic mass of sadness and
bewilderment.

<ul It has a failure or shame type of feeling associated with the
dissonance.

The image I chose represents my more active self, going the distance for
both my mental and physical health.

https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-7090072-beauty-runner-girl-running-over-sunset-young

TEST

Top
Artifact 1

Module
9 Archive

SWF Seeking… (LO 7.4)

Hayes (1995) coded over 5,000 personal ads and found that men are looking
for attractive, younger women, while women are seeking financially stable older
men. These findings can be explained socially (e.g., men are more concerned
with physical attractiveness, whereas women want a partner who is a good
financial prospect) or in evolutionary terms (e.g., younger women have a
reproductive advantage, while older males are more likely to provide shelter
and security). Examine the personal ads (e.g., the personals on Craigslist) to
look for trends in age preferences, attraction, and other desirable qualities
by gender and sexual orientation.

It was so interesting to see these trends in real life. Of course, just
as stated above, men overall do prefer younger women who are attractive. And
women overall were seeking responsible, serious, well educated, well employed
men. I wonder how the situation would differ in other sexual identity, non-heterosexual
relationships? A bit more complicated and a bit more depth I’m assuming.

The visual artifact I chose is of Ursula the sea witch from Disney’s The
Little Mermaid, in a scene where she is telling a story of a woman wanting to
be more attractive, smaller for a man, and a man wanting to be bigger, beefier for
the woman.

Top Artifact 5 Module 3 Archive Similarity leads to attraction Social psychologists have found in their research that there seems to be wisdom in the idea of “similarity leads to attraction.” In a sentence or two, why do you suppose this is true? “Because people are attracted to features that they see in others that…
