Dental Hygienists vs. Sustainability: Maintaining Clean Teeth and a Clean Environment
Earlier this month, I interviewed my neighbor, Allisondra. She’s a Dental Hygiensit currently employed at Konikoff Dentistry in Virginia Beach and graduated from ODU’s Dental Hygiene program with her Bachelor’s Degree. While interviewing my neighbor about sustainability as a Dental Hygienist, I learned quite a bit. But what stood out to me the most was how there isn’t really an environmentally friendly way to clean their tools between patients. Allisondra mentioned how hygienists using sterilized metal tools consumes a lot of energy and disposable tools would also negatively impact the environment.
