Looking back at my first blog post I realize I did not fully understand what this course was offering and what I would be learning. My goal was to see how other cultures impact my life. While I have gained much insight on that I have learned much more and learned how much culture plays a part in our society and it has made me much more culturally sensitive. If I took this class again I would procrastinate less. I have grown academically by adapting to this online format of school. I have gained time management skills this semester and have had to hold myself more accountable. I chose the above image as my representative image because it illustrates what this class is about.

This course was very interesting and I learned a lot about the impact of culture on psychology and the world in general. The top things I learned this year are that your perception of the world is influenced by culture, it is important to be culturally sensitive and many cultures have more similarities than you may think. Being culturally sensitive as I just mentioned relates to my assignment takeaway from assignment 1 about intercultural sensitivity. In chapter 7 gender was discussed in a way related to roles in certain cultures. In child psychology it is associated more with how parents saw these gender roles. I chose a flowchart as my representative image because it best illustrated how I chose the top things I learned.

Being on such a diverse campus as ODU I have had the opportunity to know people of many different cultures. When communicating with these people I did not notice too much of a difference in their behavior relevant to their emotion. I saw no difference in how their behavior was in comparison to anyone else. I think the reasoning is because the majority of people I have met from different cultures were from english speaking countries somewhat similar to the United States. I chose this picture as my representative images to show examples of different facial expressions.

I think that fairy tales do reflect certain values and cultural norms. Fairy tales have often been passed down from multiple generations. Morals and values tend to be constant through generations which is why these stories reflect them. Personally, a fairytale that resonated with me the most growing up is the three little pigs. I liked this because the idea of having your friends back was important to me. I attached a picture representing this story as my representative image.

Competence,Autonomy, and Relatedness can be seen in many aspects of life. including academics. Academically I display each competence by studying to ensure I master material. I show autonomy by not allowing myself to get distracted and maintain focus. I show relatedness by studying with other people. These all are important to academic success. I chose this picture as my representative image because I think studying shows competence academically.

Many of the statements I used to describe who I am are associated with independent construal of self. The statements I used to describe me were mostly associated with me being a hard working person and many of my traits were relevant to that. I also had a few statements relating to my identity such as religion and education status. All of the statements except for #6 and #10 were relevant to independent construal of self. Most of these were traits such as being intelligent. Statement #6 and #10 were about me being trustworthy and honest . These were more associated with interdependent construal of self because they are concerned with working with others. Overall I consider myself to be more independent than interdependent. I chose this picture as my representative image because it illustrated the chapter concept effectively.

Exam 1 went well for me. I got an 84 which was around what I expected. I felt pretty comfortable with most of the material.Looking back at the test I think many of the questions I missed were due to lack of reading the question through. To study for this test I reviewed my notes and the review sheet a couple days leading up to the test. For future tests, I will start reviewing earlier. I chose this picture representing time management as a representative image because I think that better time management will lead to increased test performance in the future.

In the NEO personality test I had low openness, high conscientiousness, high agreeableness, low extraversion, and low neuroticism. I think that these were accurate descriptions of my personality and I also think that these scores are mostly consistent with each other and are relevant to one another. For example, Due to low extraversion I also have low openness because I don’t communicate things with many people and when I do it is not into great detail. The picture I chose to illustrate this blog is made up of the first words that I think of to describe my personality. I chose these words because I feel as if they gave a perfect general description of my personality from different aspects.

Personally, I have always had a few values that have been instilled in me since childhood which are religion, family, and education. I was taught that with these three things I could accomplish anything . This is one reason I pursued higher education another reason I pursued higher education is because I value having a rewarding career. My family has always pushed me to ensure I end up in a career I enjoy. Higher education allows me to do this and helps me fulfill my values. I chose the above picture as my representative image because family is what first established all the values I have today.

I am looking forward to taking this class and learning about everything this class has to offer. I am hoping to gain knowledge about the influence of other cultures on our daily lives. I know that this course will require me to stay on top of due dates for the e-portfolio and the general assignments as I have taken a class with a similar format. I chose the above picture to illustrate this blog because it shows that people all over the world that have physical and cultural differences are all somewhat working together influencing the world.
