Opportunities for Workplace Deviance

Cyber technology has made it easier for employees to misuse work hours and resources in ways that reduce productivity and security. One common form of workplace deviance is “cyberloafing” which is spending time on personal browsing, social media, or shopping during work hours, which distracts from actual job tasks (Blanchard & Henle, 2008). Cyber technology also allows for improper access to sensitive information, like downloading personal files on company devices or accessing restricted data without permission. These behaviors, while often unnoticed, can lead to serious security breaches or break trust in the workplace.
