The two books that are being compared in the Paired Text Teacher’s guide are Elephants by Ruth Owens and Free to be Elephant Me by Giles Andreae. The targeted grade level is 2nd grade. In this artifact, a nonfiction and fiction text are being compared. In addition, a brief is given about each author and a list of other books that were written by the authors. There are also activities listed for each Standard of Learning that aligns with the 2nd grade curriculum. Moreover, when texts are being compared throughout a library lesson this is a great way for the school librarian to help learners bridge connections with the content area and objectives that are taught.
