SPAN 101

This is my assignment archive. My biggest weakness within this course is my pronunciation and within writing was my miss-use of verbs and wordings.

Introduction Assignment

This assignment was my first writing assignment that I had to turn in for Spanish 101. I had to describe my self; my name, birthday, age, where I’m from, characteristics (using tener, ser and estar), where I work, study, and my phone number. I also had to use proper greetings. I struggled with certain endings and adding extra letters that didn’t exist.

This was my final copy. I fixed my mistakes and had to type it. It helped me understand my errors more. My score significantly improved. This way of grading helped my spelling errors tremendously.

Schedule/Activity Assignment

This next assignment is another rough draft. I had to create my own schedule and write about six different activities I do, on different days. Using different verbs. I chose to write out my times instead of using numerical form. My biggest errors were verbs, prepositions, and conjugation.

As you can see from my final draft, after seeing my mistakes my score did improve. But, it still lacked. As I learned more I improved my conjugation rules. I still struggle terribly with prepositions. But, I think overall I’m getting better. From my French to Spanish transition is going to take some time. Nothing is going to be perfect. As long as I keep trying I believe I will get to where I want.

This last assignment was a presentation via PowerPoint. I pre-recorded my presentation to keep and look at later date to see how much I progress I made with my pronunciation. I want to include it in here to track my oral presentation performance.

This assignment I was supposed to talk about my campus and what I did throughout the day or while I’m on campus. I was supposed to describe characteristics of each place and how close it was in relation to other things. I ended up struggling on this assignment and not completing it fully. I think if I was able to do this again I would be able to give characteristics and use conocer and saber while describing it. As I learned more I feel like my vocabulary expanded and it made it easier. It was harder when I was first learning from other lectures.

Final Reflection

Learning Spanish from only knowing French as a foreign language has been a difficult adjustment. As well as adjusting back to in-person classes. My French foreign language was all done via zoom and online. Writing, and reading Spanish is much easier for me than speaking. I still struggle with reading, if the sentences are short its much easier. Pronunciation of the vowels and most words is my biggest struggle. Some things auditorily I pick up on. Body language and hand gestures help my style of learning.

Certain products within my course like contrasena helped some with my learning of Spanish. The only downside to the contrasena is that I can’t go back after my course is over to continuously practice or refresh my brain with 101 knowledge. My professor was my biggest aid this semester. She made us communicate with other classmates on Spanish activities and would constantly ask us questions in Spanish. She had us do multipole conversation exercises and that helped immensely. I feel comfortable enough to admit I struggled a lot. There’s a lot of pressure that someone needs to be almost fluent starting out, or else you won’t get a good grade. Nothing is going to be perfect and that has to be something I need to remember.

The only experience I have of immersing in a foreign culture and listening to a language that wasn’t French or English was my trip to Italy that I took last summer. There are a lot of similarities between Spanish and Italian that I already was able to pick up on. But, its still vastly different than what I’m used to. I’m so new to this, that it will take more time to adapt. this was a shorter course than what I’m used to. And I feel as though I did well.
