SPAN 101

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

An Effective Reflection Is

Throughout this course I have learned many things about myself. The first thing I have learned is that if I truly apply myself and study to the best of my ability then I will succeed. In the beginning I struggled with understanding grammar, conjugating the verbs and the basics of writing a simple sentence in Spanish. However, I preserved, and I managed to do well on all of my assignments and make the material fully stick. I am proud of myself for how hard I have worked in this class and that I did not give up; no matter the challenges I faced. Throughout the quizzes I had taken, you can see I did very well on most of them, there were a few zeros solely because of my lack of time management and attention to deadlines. However, throughout this last month you can see on all my quizzes, test and lingrolearning that I have done everything to the best of my ability. I am truly proud of the obstacles i have overcome in this class, and for this class to teach me that I can push myself farther than what I have imagined. But I will let my work speak for itself.

Artifacts

In these first three photos It shows my grades on quizzes. Starting with the first quiz we had ever taken, to a quiz in the middle of the semester and finally the last quiz of the semester. The following photos are in the same order for my test grades and Lingrolearning.

Exploring Culture

The study tools I used throughout this semester was flashcards, tutoring online from Old Dominion University, help from Profe Donoghue and even simple music videos on YouTube to teach me the alphabet and numbers of that sort.

These products were extremely useful in my learning curve throughout the semester. The main thing that has helped me the most was having zoom meetings with my professor. She was able to help me understand questions that I had that I could not understand. Another study tool that helped me tremendously was flashcards. I mostly wrote out conjugations of verbs and what they meant, vocabulary that will be useful to understand paragraphs and a lot of basic sentences to understand how to write correctly in Spanish. Throughout this semester we learned many cultural differences. The main difference I saw was how different and lively the foreign campus’ are compared to American colleges. I believe that exploring the cultural differences I have learned that most people are not as fortunate as most people in America are. That has made me see how lucky I am, and how fortunate many people are in even applying to colleges and having the funding to do so.

Engaging in Communities

It is important to engage in the global community so you can be a fully rounded individual. Most people live with blinders on and in their own world, it is important to see the world through many different glasses and always having an open mind to everyone.

Presentational Speaking

in this class we have had multiple conversations with our instructor. few speaking assignments on lingrolearning also.

While in this semester, we have had many conversations with Profe Donoghue. Some were conversations with herself , and others were on Flipgrid . I believe that I had excelled in speaking in Spanish this semester. The last conversation that I had had with Profe Donoghue, she mentioned that I have had much improvement and that I had done very well on the speaking portion of the exam, leading to a 38/40 on my test.

Presentational Writing

in this class we have had a few writing assignments. Most of these assignments were during our tests, however there was a few on lingrolearning, to help us better prepare for the test.

During this semester, writing was my biggest challenge. I always felt that what I was writing was too basic and that it needed to be better and more advanced. However, after speaking with Profe Donoghue after a certain test, she helped me understand that basic is good and to always write in the level that you feel comfortable writing in. I ended up excelling with basic sentences, leading me to much better grades on my test! I would change the way i studied writing in the beginning of the semester , to how I study now.

Interpretive Listening

In this class we have had multiple listening quizzes, listening assignments on lingrolearning and some on test.

I believe that when it came to listening and choosing what to pick I had always excelled in that portion. As shown in the artifacts, nine times out of ten i had aced the quizzes. I excel in this portion mostly because it is the easiest portion. I am proud to say that when I listen to native speakers, I can inference a little of what they are trying to say. Resulting in a well rounded education.

Interpretive Reading

During this semester we have had many interpretive readings on test, quizzes and lingrolearning. Ranging from letters, to short stories.

As mentioned, we have had many interpretive reading this semester. They have ranged from simple emails to a friend/family member, to brief stories about someones day. What challenged me the most in this portion was interpreting what some of these sentences meant. The most interesting part of the interpretive reading was the difference when speaking to an adult compared to speaking to one of your friends. In each assignment I have grown tremendously, I can understand when a verb is conjugated and who it is conjugated for in a sentence, and I can read many words in Spanish comprehensively.
