CyberOps Reflection
The most interesting part of the conference for myself is when the CTF event was going on as it reintroduced a challenge that was first presented to me in last class. It did, however, change my expectations dramatically about the field and the challenges that I will most likely encounter in my future. The CTF required a much deeper level of problem solving than the typical math class and it gave me a different way of thinking about problems. One question in particular, dealt with my team and I having to investigate the VCS of a site in order to find a hidden message. It required us to explore Google and apply the knowledge gained so we could inspect the code to find the comments. Through this event, I was reminded that Cybersecurity is not an easy field, and I will have to really think in order to solve my problems in the future.
Cyber Security Career Connections Event Reflection
At the Cybersecurity Career Connections Experience, I was able to meet with representatives from NASA, Aermor, Lasergrid, Apex Systems, and a couple others. Out of these employers, Lasergrid and Aermor stood out the most. They give training to their interns as well as ways to gain certifications while working for them with no cost. Both companies also promise full time jobs for their interns as well as bonuses for recruitment. Judging from the two companies, I can not imagine the offers that may stem from this incredible opportunity, and I look forward to potentially interning or even working for either of these companies. This event served as a starting point as well for my interviewing skills so that I can also have better success for opportunities beyond just what I was able to experience at the event. I look forward to reaching out to these companies and securing my first internships.
