SPAN 102

Exploring Culture

During My spring semester here at Old Dominion University I have been taking Spanish 101 where I have learned how to communicate in Spanish and also understand the grammar and logic that comes with it. I did not know anything about Spanish until I decided to take this course here at school. I have learned how to speak fluent sentences and also count and read Spanish. Lingo learning is something that also helped me understand this different language and also read and write and also speak Spanish.

The practice that was used was lingo learning and this helped me a lot with understanding Spanish and knowing the grammar. Working on new grammar everyday helped a lot because it was being pushed in my head causing me to have to understand it. I would say that I understand this new language good but I do not know it as much as I know my natural language which is English. Theses practices helped me see things different because knowing two different languages can help you go a long way in life even though it got difficult at times I still managed to pull through and understand.

Engaging in Communities

I feel that it is important to me to know a different language because for one it makes you more money and it also can help you with getting a good job. I have videos of me speaking in Spanish with one of my peers that I would like to share.

Interpersonal Communication

I have did recordings of me and my peer speaking in el spanol. There has been writing assignments where we would have to write about another country in Spanish and talk about the culture of that country. We also learned how to read and tell time in Spanish and also learn how to wrote it.

The voice recording and also the oral exams that I had to do over the semester helped a lot with understanding Spanish. They were difficult at times but I managed to be able to get through this and turned out to be good.

Presentational Speaking

I have been doing oral exams for this whole semester and doing this helped me with speaking Spanish very good. I had oral exams with my professor and also with my partner that I had in my Spanish class. I can say I have did about 7 speaking exams this semester. I was finding it hard to speak Spanish but I finally was able to do it without struggling.

What was most challenging was trying to remember what to say because I do not speak Spanish but I had to get over that hump and actually learn how to speak Spanish and I would say theses oral exams helped the most. What I would do differently is try to be more fluent with my words and not say the word “uhm” after I say a word or sentence in Spanish.

Presentational Writing

During this semester we had to do assignments where we would have to write a brief paragraph on another country and we would have to write this in Spanish. I have done this assignment about 4 or 5 times now and I can say I have gotten the hang of it and I can now read write and speak Spanish and this course has been a great impact on my learning career.

Interpretive Listening

There has been activities that I have done where I have to listen to the person talking in Spanish and answer the question they are asking or I would have to tell someone else what they said basically translating what they said in Spanish. I have took test where I have to do this and I have been passing every single one.

Interpretive Reading

I have did activities like reading out loud to my roommates in Spanish and trying to speak fluently to them and also I have been doing oral exams through the whole semester that would help my get better at speaking in Spanish.

Here is a image of my work and progress of lingo learning where we did activates where I have to read wrote and also peak Spanish and I have been doing this everyday the whole semester.
