Pre-Semester Reflection

Transition to College

In my transition to college, I am most excited about using the gym and learning new things that will hopefully help me solidify my choice as a nursing major. I expect my biggest challenge this year to be balancing six classes. I do not ever want to fall behind in any of my classes, so organization is a must. I don’t have many other time commitments, but I will need to balance the gym and ILC with my classes. The way that I balance my schedule is going to class, spending about an hour and a half on studying and homework, and then heading to the gym after. In high school, I was apart of Red Cross Club, but I only got to experience it for a small amount of time because of Covid. I do not plan to join any clubs this semester, as I am already in the Impact Learning Community!

Major and Career

My intended major is nursing, and I chose this major because I love talking to people, and I also do not want a job where I need to be sitting constantly in an office. I am very personable and friendly, and I have been told that I am easy to talk to. I used to volunteer at the hospital when I was a freshman and sophomore in high school, and getting to watch the nurses work was an interesting experience. My career goals are to find a work environment that I can really enjoy.

Study Habits

The biggest difference between high school and college is probably that college is less personal in the way that high school teachers reminded us to do our assignments all the time. There is a definite difference between homework and studying. Homework is the act of learning a concept, while studying is reinforcement to help that information stay in your brain. I have Chemistry-I review notes for chemistry for thirty minutes each day, Chem lab- I am honestly not sure how much studying this will require, but probably thirty minutes every class, Intro to World Literature- not too much studying, it is mostly reading but I read the required text twice over every day , Intro to Music- an hour each week, Logic and Philosophy- thirty minutes after each class, Health professions- thirty minutes per class. I enjoy studying in my room. My phone could be a potential distraction, but I will power it off while I am doing homework and studying. I enjoy studying during the day, because when I am tired I am more interested in laying down and less interested in retaining information. I like writing things down to study. The muscle memory helps me keep it in my brain
