Computers have made the world safer in some ways, but also more dangerous in others. One of, if not the most common crime in the world is cybercrimes. Many people engage in riskier behavior when they have on a mask, and it is no different when it comes to being behind a screen. Online stalking is a common crime and can easily turn into a much larger problem if not addressed properly. Many online stalkers start stalking their victim online and then begin to actually follow their victim, which is not only terrifying but dangerous too.

On the other hand, technology has helped us in many ways. Cell phones can be used to alert the emergency services quickly, and I have no doubt that this has made the world a far safer place. Technology has also caused people from other countries to communicate more frequently, and when nations have a good relationship with one another wars are less likely to start. This makes the world safer as a whole, and while communication can’t always solve a nations problem, it’s always a good idea to have a friendly relationship with your neighbors.

But technology has also made the world more dangerous in some ways, since a nations information and resources can be reached by a foreign hacker. This means that not only can crimes be committed against another form across the globe, but the loss of crucial recourses can be devastating for a country’s entire population, just from a few hackers. Information can be stolen and leaked physically, too, but just because it is stored in a computer doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Many hackers don’t face justice for their crimes since it can be hard to figure out their identity and track them down. And if they are located in a foreign nation then that just makes the job even harder. On the other hand, finding out someone’s identity from security cameras has definitely solved many crimes. You can’t always count on the victims’ memories of what the perpetrator looks like, so having actual photos of them, even if blurry, has helped solve many crimes. Just knowing your being watched by a security camera is enough to make most people think twice before committing crimes.
