Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Reflection
Taking this class has really helped my understand that theirs more depth into another historical culture that I only had the surface information about. Even though it was challenging for me because I was working while taking this class and i already have a difficulty in English. But finding new ways to learn it and understand has really helped me broaden my preceptive on English too. See how other people see this world just in a different language and a different culture has really inspired me. In the beginning I only knew a word or two and the numbers in spanish now I could have a conversation, and read in spanish. But its inspired me to want to see for myself in person how this different culture really is.

Exploring Culture
Learning how this different and beautiful all these cultures are from mine. Seeing how they use similar and different their language, food, and economy are really helped me understand better about their cultures. how they use the same things we do just in their own way for how different our traditions are. Different traditions in art, music, and education. How they live so close and yet so differently. Not at all how I thought that the spanish culture thought about.

Engaging in Communities
Learning about this community has help me in many ways, broaden my perspective on different cultures and really see how different they are. Also helped me in using this language in my daily life since Spanish’s is one of the most popular languages in the US. I can use it in a way of see how we can better the world by seeing a different part of the world through someone else eyes who has been treated differently or the same as me. Being able to speak in another language to then see how difficult it was for them to speak and understand our language and for us to speak and understand theirs.
Presentational Speaking
In taking this class practicing speaking this new language was pretty difficult for me but I got better at it because I took another language class so my mind way trying to mix all three languages together. Some of the words sounded similar but different at the same time so me trying to focus on just one when I already struggle with the others. But as I got use to it and trying new ways to speak it, it got easier for me. The only part of speaking that I just never got use to was having to do the interviews with my professor. Even when she would go slow on asking the questions because I was so nervous I still would get them but not all the way because I’m more of a visual learner. If I were to do something differently which I’ve tried but until it was too late was to listen to more Spanish interviews on youtube and write the questions that she might ask during the interview and practice how I would answer them like the videos I watched on youtube.

Presentational Writing
Also most of our written assignments and projects was not to bad the only thing that was difficult for me was trying to remember the vocabulary but I’ve never been good at English’s grammar so I already knew that this was going to be the most difficult part of the writing portion. After practicing and just rewriting the ones that I didn’t understand that well and or was having difficulties with I made more progress in understanding spanish grammar. Going over it and once my professor really broke it down for us to relate to it made it also easier. Most of my texto assignments were also easier for my after my professor explained them, learning how to take the vocab I already know and helping it better flow into an understanding sentence of a conversation.

Interpretive Listening
On lingrohub did help me hear how most of these words are used differently but have the same meanings somethings, and or sound different but look the opposite. This language does seem like a fast speaking language so it did difficult things for me especially being a visual learner i would have to see what that were saying. What did help was trying to key in on the familiar word i did hear and use my context cluse for the rest of the sentence, trying to slow down the speaker and really practice listening to how unfamiliar words sound. It did interest me of how the same word could mean different things but it was more of a pro con thing it was easier for me to remember the one word but it was hard to listen because it was used differently.

Interpretive Reading
The reading portion of this class was a little complicated at first but then I started easing into it once I was able to recognize either was the conversation was or what the text says. Having to use my context clues even for same word different meaning text was difficult but that’s when it kicked in. It was interesting seeing how one word would look different to the meaning but that was challenging too. But practicing the vocab and really focusing on the conversation or text really helped.
