IDS 493

IDS 493 is about learning how to make yourself marketable.  This course has taught me many things in learning  how to apply that knowledge of self marketing to my very own portfolio.  My experience with working in the cyber department has always been excellent.  All of my professors have always been easy to work with and provided no hassle when prompted, even with my difficult questions.  Throughout my time my advisor has always been able to provide clear responses and recommendations in terms of course selection, and has offered me great counsel up until this moment.  One of the most valuable skills I have learned was gaining experience in python.  This helps rgeatly as previouilsy I was lacking in terms of usage and understanding, leaving longwood this was one of the course I took that did not translate well to going online, and as a result I suffered.  Taking this course over again has given me great pride in saying my proficiency has gotten better.

One of the most valuable learning experiences here at odu would be communication.  I have learned that communication goes a very long way, and learning how to properly communicate can help you achieve more than anything else.  Some obstacles I have experienced were my transfer status as that held up my credits from passing institutions.  This created a bit of a weird period as now I am lacking a small amount of credits which is a minor setback, but nothing that I could not overcome as now I am set to graduate May 2023.  My previous courses have helped shape my idea of the world around me through many politics and ethics courses which allowed me to interact with my peers on a social level in which we can communicate our thoughts and ideas.  This keeps my mind fresh with new perspectives on which I can base my thinking around.

This course allows the students to make a website in which they can solicit their skills and abilities to possible employers in a neat fashioned way that has been examined through peer and professional reviews.  One of the most valuable things learned in my portfolio is my overall abilities once layed out infront of me.  I really did not think I was that well accomplished but this proved me otherwise.  I think the organization on my page is really good, along with the detailed information included in my coursework tabs with captions explaining my work.  I did not really face any obstacles in my coursework for IDS 493.  This was a straight forward cut and dry course which helped to instill some good future habits in terms of self marketing.  I think I could improve the overall look of the portfolio as it seems maybe too overwhelming at first glance though information solid. My previous courses helped by allowing me the proper material to show for my achievements in terms of having papers and prior coursework.

Interdisciplinary methods and studies are important to allow you to help further yourself in your professional career.  Without these types of courses our network side of communication would be poor with no real way of learning how to improve.  This has allowed me to make connections in such courses as ethics in cyber security and local and state government, its truly a experience for one that you have to make yourself. Being an interdisciplinary thinker in the field of politics helps me stay on my feet to ensure that all angles can be considered.  My next steps at ODU involve me acquiring my Security+ certification and beginning work within my aspiring field after graduation in the spring.
