Why am I interested in Cybersecurity?

As we enter a digital age, we are exposed to both limitless opportunity and a new frontier of risk. Humans have evolved over many years to provide ourselves with safety and security, we seek shelter in our homes securing ourselves from the physical elements, we seek wealth to secure our positions and lifestyles, we invest in weapons to keep our borders and way of life secure from bad actors. The internet is the newest frontier, one we are all deeply connected and invested in. most of us use computers and the internet everyday to manage our lives. We bank online, we communicate online, we learn online. My last few doctors’ visits especially during the covid pandemic have been virtual visits. I pay my income taxes using the internet. I check my credit using the internet. I book services and make purchases via the internet more than I do in person. These are the obvious ways we interreact with computers and the internet. However there are less obvious ways. The internet of things, our cars, our garage door openers, the lighting in some of our homes can all be connected with other devices and remotely controlled. The truth is we are completely depended on the internet and computers and most of us have no idea how to protect or secure ourselves from malicious actors on the cyber plane. We are aware of how to keep ourselves physically secure but digitally we could do better. I want to do better. That is my driving force behind my interest in Cybersecurity. I want to be aware of how to protect myself and others against digital threats especially with having so much exposure online and being incredibly vulnerable.
