IDS 493
Introduction
I am a transfer student here at Old Dominion University. When I was at Tidewater Community College, I wanted to become a programmer. I ended up changing my major later on to cybersecurity at Old Dominion University. This has been a good couple of years in the cybersecurity program. One of the major events that happened was the COVID-19 Pandemic. Before this I mainly had in person classes with some online classes. This ended up switching to online only. I was actually worried at first, but I adjusted to it and thrived. I learned so many skills at Old Dominion University. Labs from the course work developed more technical skills. Also, some of the skills that I had before also improved because I transferred. Papers I had to write helped improve my research abilities.
Program Reflection
One of the most valuable things I learned here at Old Dominion is working together with people. I used to work by myself and not talk to people. Over time I ended up making new friends. I also learned how to work with people and to not over exert myself with group projects. Another experience I gained was the ability to adapt and learn in a different situation. Another thing I learned is that cybersecurity is unique and diverse. It is constantly evolving. This is a good thing because I like to learn new things and discuss topics.
IDS 493 Reflection
IDS 493 was different from some of my classes I have taken. This course is all about making a portfolio and improving it. In this course I had to relearn how to use the portfolio. I made this portfolio my first semester, but I neglected it. To make the portfolio you have to talk about yourself and the achievements you have gained throughout the time you have been at Old Dominion University. This can be work from courses, internships, clubs, etc. One of the issues I had when preparing the portfolio is what I wanted to put in it. I had so much I wanted to include but I had to overlook most of it. One of the things I liked about the portfolio was that I was able to look at my old work and see the growth that happened. If I had more time to work on this portfolio, I would probably trim out certain things and maybe change up the design slightly.
Conclusion
My time here at Old Dominion University has made me look at a lot of different types of technology. I also had to look at different types of studies and theories conducted from people across the world. Seeing how they all fit together in a way was interesting to me. Looking at them together gives you a better understanding of problems in cybersecurity and helps you see the big picture. When I graduate, I am going to look for a professional job and I will probably look for higher education.
