Entrepreneurship

My entrepreneurship experience took form in an applied psychological science called human factors. Human factors explored the relationship between humans and the environment and explored ways that we can improve the environment, which includes workspaces, tools, and jobs, to better fit humans based on our physical and psychological capabilities and limits. A vital portion of this course consisted of assignments in which we had to seek good and bad designs in our environment and explain why it is as such while relating the elements we identified to topics discussed in the literature. Completing these assignments caused me to take new perspectives and seek issues around me that could be resolved to fit the needs of various individuals with a diverse range of abilities. Doing this has helped enrich my mind to be an innovator and problem solver to seek advancements in my everyday life. Also, my eyes were opened to consider how, specifically, disabled individuals navigate certain environments and be consistently mindful of these circumstances

An additional important facet of my learning experience in this class was weekly video logs that we had to record describing specific topics that were discussed during that respective week’s lecture. In creating these videos, I further developed my ability to communicate information in a comprehensible way. While the videos allowed me to develop my communication skills, I also found the assignment to be very beneficial in my learning process. Being able to organize my thoughts into a clear and concise video to relay a message shows my capacity to be a satisfactory instructor.

Reflection

This course taught me a lot about how the human body and mind function and the multitude of ways we can, and continually interact with our environment. These assignments show my prowess for being a problem solver and my quality vocal and written communication caliber. A skill that I learned from taking this course that I will use in the future is my understanding of different perspectives. During the course, I had to take the perspective of the user and the designer which has helped me to recognize problems and find resolutions based on the necessary components required for particular tasks. As a graduate student, problem-solving is an applicable skill that will be of value in my educational and personal endeavors.
