Phi Eta Sigma Leadership

As a member of Phi Eta Sigma, looking back, I would not have guessed that the experience would have had such a tremendous impact on my life the way it has over the past 3 years. I’ve had the opportunity to not only take on two leadership positions within the organization but have also taken part in experiences and met people that have influenced me greatly. For the first two years in a leadership position, I took on the role of treasurer and handled all of the financial concerns. As of this recent semester, I decided to move to a different position and became the vice president. Initially, I would say that I was a lot more comfortable being treasurer because I have a knack for numbers and previously was employed as a supervisor where my main responsibility was to count and handle all of the money. Having been treasurer, I got comfortable and decided that for my last year, I was going to make a change, step out of my comfort zone, and take on a more prominent role in the organization. Thus, I ran and was inducted as vice president of Phi Eta Sigma. I’ve gained a lot more confidence in my public speaking skills because I’ve been communicating with the members of Phi Eta Sigma more directly and have had the opportunity to connect with even more people than I have in the past. I am proud of myself for making a change in my life because this has not only helped my development as a leader but has also greatly improved my development as an individual. 

Digital Media Creations

Reflection

While my leadership and personal development have been an amazing experience, I have also been able to find new skills and passions that I had not realized before. Although I was treasurer and vice president, I also voluntarily took on the responsibility of creating all of our digital media posters and presentations. Before taking leadership within Phi Eta Sigma, I didn’t have extensive knowledge about how to create such projects but I found it very intriguing and invigorating to have the ability to show my creative nature and fill a role I had not initially imagined being in. Personally, this is a skill that I am grateful to have developed because in our age of technology, showing expertise in such programs is a very marketable ability that has the possibility to help me stand out from other candidates in my future career. Although I am not seeking to become a professional media design maker, it is an applicable skill to be able to create presentations as I make my progression into graduate school where there is a lot of collaborative work and presentations that are likely to take place. Being able to have an array of skills, as I mentioned before, makes me a unique individual.
