Investigating the Intersection of AI and Cybercrimes: Risks, Trends, and Countermeasures
This article stuck out to me mainly because it deals with such a new issue. AI, which is an
artificial intelligence that is built to mimic human behavior specifically the trait to learn and
adapt. What is so fascinating about it is how unnatural it is. It is a machine made to advance
itself. Though there is a problem it could be used and abused for cybercrimes. For example, AI is
now able to copy the voice of anyone which could exacerbate scam incidents and identity theft.
This article specifically talks about AI-driven cyber-attacks, the exploitation of vulnerabilities,
and privacy concerns. From the articles research it says that with new surge in AI usage
specifically in ChatGPT people are creating prompts for things such as scam emails, malware
code, and a connection to the dark web. To find this data they used a Cyber RAT framework.
They would interview people on their habits online and ask questions like how AI may affect
their lives or how they keep themselves safe online. The AI is developing new techniques for
hackers to pull of more complicated attacks. What the article I think highly relates to the concept
of Human Error and the Cognitive Behavioral theory. When it comes to Human Error is talking
about people not taking the necessary steps to pay attention to the dangers of AI by not investing
their time to research and bring awareness to people. People need to understand that this is a new
problem that needs to be researched fast as to not be outpaced by AI. It suggests that we
collaborate with governments, industries, and law enforcement to regulate AI and AI driven
cybercrimes. In relation to Cognitive Behavioral theory the people who commit these crimes
obviously commit with intent, but I also believe they do it because its such a fascinating and new
way to commit these crimes. They get some form of satisfaction for committing these crimes
because it’s a challenge. This study mainly contributes to bringing awareness and presenting how
important it is to pay attention to this developing issue.
