Computers have done so much to modernize society. Without them, life as we know it would be drastically different. Computers were first introduced as, essentially, calculators. After that they then quickly became more and more advanced, seeing as we moved from computers only being able to send each other emails in the 70s to the introduction of the internet in the 80s. Computers have now become a means of protection for us. Since everything is basically controlled all online now, it only makes sense for the security measures to exist there as well. Computers protect us by monitoring our water distribution and filtration systems, making sure that our electrical grids are working and available, and maintaining efficient traffic flow through timed lights. All of the aforementioned processes help us to live normal lives by protecting us from health issues, giving us light so we can see, and keeping us safe from traffic accidents. While computer developments have good intentions, there are people out there that want to use them for less than desirable purposes. This could include any number of things such as allowing people to launch missiles at others, developing nuclear weapons, and hacking in to government elections. Those purposes are for death, destruction, and government interference. There is no need for such things to occur, but, due to the amazing technological feats that humans have come up with, we are able to “play god”, in a sense, and control and disrupt what we previously could not.
With such intricacies involved with modern computers, there is a need for people to maintain them. Usually engineers are in charge of such things. Engineers play important roles, as they basically keep society running smoothly and safely. Making sure that the networks the computers work on are up and running is one of the most important aspects of allowing them to function correctly. Without proper connections to their respective networks, the computers are basically useless. Engineers work to allow networks and computers to function in tandem so that the world runs smoothly.
