There are many aspects that go in to securing one’s business. In recent years, the most important aspect of all has become cybersecurity programs. This is due in part most business being conducted on computers and online. It is only logical that cybersecurity programs would be at the forefront of securing a business. The benefits of such programs are dependent on the kind of business that needs protection however. A couple of universal benefits include workplace efficiency and data security. If one’s business is secure, then there are going to be less cybersecurity events that occur that will hinder productivity if the network is knocked offline. However, in the instance of a cybersecurity event occurring, cybersecurity programs can ensure that current up to date data has been backed up so that it can be retrieved later. But in any case, there will always be costs in exchange for one’s benefits. Two costs that come to mind are monetary costs and the time it takes for one to learn the mechanics of the cybersecurity program itself. When investing in to programs to protect a business’s data, the actual cost can be the ultimate deciding factor in the end. Some businesses have more money than others, and can therefore afford, presumably, more efficient cybersecurity programs. Because of the monetary costs of protection programs, come businesses leave themselves more susceptible to cybersecurity events simply due to them not being able to afford anything better. Even though one business may be able to afford more intricate and secure programs, that does not mean that they know how to work those systems. The humans that operate the systems still have to learn the ins and outs of the program so, in the case of a cybersecurity event or outage, they can trouble shoot problems and bring the business back online.

The main aspect of keeping one’s information safe online is making sure that the computer itself is safe. But how is one to know that their computer is safe? Most computers come with malware protection built in already. In this case, all one has to do to check if there is anything wrong is go in to their setting and have their built in security scan for viruses or anything similar. Another way to check if your computer is safe is to update browser plugins. The plugins provide useful security for your browsing data, and keeping up to date with those updates will allow for one’s data to become more secure than it was before. A third way to maintain your computer’s safety is to delete downloaded files after one is done with them. Downloading files offline, even from a trusted source, always come with some risks. One never 100% knows what all is being downloaded on to their computer with the file, and deleting that data after it is no longer needed will prevent a cybersecurity event from taking place.
