Mid-Semester Reflection

I am doing really well in my English class, because I have a really good teacher.  She has a passion for what she teaches and does it in a good way.  I need assistance in Chemistry and Sociology.  To make changes to these things, I have asked some of my classmates who I know who are doing well to assist me in better study habits as well as any tips or tricks they have to help with.

My expectations for college were not the best. I expected to be alone and just go school, work, home, no other type of interactions or fun things to do.  I did not expect this many people here which kind of makes me not like being here that much.  The thing that has surprised me the most is how bad I feel I am doing in all of my classes.  My toughest challenge with being a commuter is definitely making friends and finding people to hang out with.  Most of the time I just sit alone till my classes and then as soon as the end of the day is here I just leave and go home.

Something I did not know about my intended major (nursing) was that a good amount will not make it into the program.  Yes, my feelings did change because I did not feel I was smart enough to make the grades needed to make it into the program.  I ended up switching my major to elementary education.  There are no questions I have about any other majors because this was the major I was looking at for a while.

One issue I have encountered at ODU has been the TA’s.  This issue is because all of the ones I have gone to for help and or assistance have been rude and acting like I should know what I am doing.  To fix this situation I can contact the Dean of Students and or talk to the professor who is in charge of them.  One professor who has really helped me has been Professor Pennington.  She is my English teacher and is one of the best teachers I have ever had.  She teaches the style I learn and cares more about how we are actually doing than most teachers do.  She is also a very one on one type of teacher so she knows when you start to struggle and figures out a way to help you whether it is in school or outside of school.  I have not attended any clubs or meetings, I wanted to figure out a way to join the field hockey school team or club team but no one has gotten back to me in the multiple times I have emailed and questioned.
