CYSE 201S Journal 1

The NICE Workforce Framework is composed of a broad spectrum of fields to build a career in cybersecurity. This spectrum ranges from creating cybersecurity software to detect anomalies and viruses to investigating cybercrime and utilizing digital forensics. There are seven main categories incorporated in the NICE Workforce Framework; out of the seven I find the investigative category to be the most interesting field for starting a career.

I am currently a criminal justice major with intention of joining a federal investigation unit such as the FBI. Most investigative agencies rely heavily on those who have the ability to look into and solve cybercrime; this can be useful in catching scammers, identity thieves, phishers, and white-collar crimes. I feel that solving these types of crimes would be extremely rewarding, not to mention that you would be an invaluable asset to a unit that may lack in cyber-investigations; therefore, this category appeals the most to me in a long-term career.

The category that least appeals to me is the secure provision topic. This category relies heavily on software and IT design, a skill that I simply do not have knowledge on. Careers in this field include software design, system architecture, and system development. My personality type does not fit these kinds of jobs as things such as coding and technology development take huge amounts of dedicated time to complete. I prefer to jump from task to task of having multiple tasks at once, which may be why I prefer the investigative category.
