Cybersecurity is an important discipline to be knowledgeable about in many workplaces. As technology continues to advance, devices such as malware and viruses advance with it; therefore, it is important for companies to continuously ensure that their data and information is secure from malicious intent. In my current major, criminal justice, it is crucial that one is adequately trained in cybersecurity and cybercrime. Jobs such as the FBI and CIA both entail tracing cybercrime, while also leaving the employee responsible for keeping confidential information confidential. Cybersecurity technology better ensures the safety of confidential information such as legal documents, bank statements, and case studies in these types of agencies.
Many other majors implement the use of cybersecurity as well. Jobs such as engineering require cybersecurity to keep their data safe. Engineers are hired out through private or government bodies to create and design plans such as buildings, roads, machinery, etc.; these plans are often made confidential by said bodies, making cybersecurity technology necessary to protect these plans. Cybersecurity technology prevents sensitive information from getting into the wrong hands and often saves engineers a lot of legal trouble.
Another major that relies on cybersecurity is business and marketing. Once again, many jobs that fall under this major require that certain documents and products be kept secure. Things such as patents, copywrites, legal documents, emails, and unreleased products all fall into the category of what cybersecurity technology protects. Another major that has similar stipulations is accounting, which requires cybersecurity for things such as bank statements, tax forms, bank accounts, and the identity of clients.
Finally, the obvious major of cybersecurity relies heavily on cybersecurity technology. Cybersecurity often requires one to create and distribute software and hardware to those who need the protection of online items. Cybersecurity can also mean tracing and stopping cybercrime, which often requires the use of cybersecurity technology to accomplish.
