Mini Game Proposal

Title: The Final Train

Tagline: Death on rails

The main goals of the game are to keep the train operational and to survive. The train needs fuel to run and needs repairing when it breaks down. While the train is moving the zombie horde will not be able to attack and you will be safe. However, whenever you need to stop the train, either to refuel, repair the engine, or collect supplies and survivors, then the horde will begin to attack, with the longer the train is stopped increasing the amount of zombies that attack. By collecting supplies and survivors you can upgrade the train with better engines so that it uses less fuel and breaks down less frequently, add train cars that can generate food, water, and other supplies, and several weapon emplacements and other defenses that allow the train to survive against larger numbers of zombies so you can explore further away from the train.

The core goal of the game is to eventually make your train self sufficient to the point of never needing to stop. Alternatively you could attempt to make it so durable and weaponized that it could stop for almost as long as you wanted and take on ever increasing amounts of zombies. The core experience is a combination of being on a train and post apocalyptic survival. The main way that you play through the game is in first person. You can travel throughout your train and leave it when it is stopped. While the train is moving you would at first main be in the engine cabin monitoring the engine. Eventually you would move more freely to the other cars to oversee all of the production and mateninece. When the train was stopped you would at first quickly run out of the train and grab the most convenient supplies and fuel, trying to be as fast as possible so that there were fewer zombies trying to attack the train. Eventually you would be able to leave the train for longer periods of time, both to get better quality resources and because convenient supplies right next to the train dwindle over the course of the game. The train will constantly use fuel and will eventually need repairs, meaning you cannot stay safe forever. The zombies will also start to attack the train when it is stationary, along with you and any other survivors. The main character can be one of three classes, The Conductor, The Engineer, or The Fortunate Soul. The Conductor gets additional bonuses to management and can organize survivors without much difficulty. The also get more specialized survivors. The Engineer gets engineering and production bonuses, meaning the production cars will produce more and they themselves can operate on the engine. The Fortunate Soul doesn’t get any specific bonuses, but resources and survivors will appear in greater numbers. The adversaries are the zombies. The majority of the horde is the basic shambling zombie, but as the game progresses, stronger variants will appear such as the Screamer, which can summon even more zombies, the Spewer, which lobs acid attacks that further damage the train, and Hulk, which can break defenses. The game is set in central USA, mostly rural and forest with a few cities. The characters motivation for upgrading the train is to survive.
