Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
- While taking Spanish 101F this semester I learned new Spanish vocabulary, better pronunciation and more confidence in my speaking abilities. I studied hard to learn the correct conjugation of words. I learned a lot how to describe people and family.
Exploring Culture
I learned more about the Hispanic culture and their values with family, money and pass times. I watched many videos on the Hispanic culture, did research on my own and talked to people of the Hispanic community.
I asked myself the difference between the American culture and the Hispanic culture and came up with quite a few findings. The Hispanic community is centered more around family than the American culture and they are more selfless than most Americans.
Engaging in Communities
I think it is important to engage with all kinds of cultures to learn more about each one.
I talked to many Hispanic men and women like myself at ODU to help build a bond of community.
Presentational Speaking
I practiced my Spanish speaking in the classroom with other students and my teacher. I also practiced my Spanish speaking at home with my father-in-law and husband.
I grew in my pronunciation of the Spanish language and could translate the Spanish to English in my head much faster than I did before taking Spanish 101F. I excelled at being more confident in what I was saying and how I said it.
Presentational Writing
In Spanish class we wrote two compositions; one about our family and one about Old Dominion University.
After writing compositions in Spanish class I have learned to properly write in Spanish and use what I’ve learned and apply it to presentational writing. I excelled at the conjugations of verbs to match the subjects but still have room to grow for writing articles.
LIANA-VENEGASInterpretive Listening
During the fall semester I learned to listen to Spanish speakers more intently to understand what the subject of the conversation is. I did many listening exercises.
I am able to hear Spanish conversations on the television or out in public and be able to understand most of the conversation. I am able to go over the conversation my head and learn from the way they are speaking and what they are speaking about.
listeningInterpretive Reading
I learned how to find the subject of each article or sentence. I can identify the proper articles of each sentence and order the words in the correct order.
