Fake V Real Websites

Today when I logged into my email I saw a notification about how my PayPal has been compromised. The thing was I actually never opened or created a PayPal in my life. I don’t know how but this year I have currently received more fake website advertisements than any other time in my life. I have received links to fake PayPal websites, text messages to packages that were supposedly from UPS that I never ordered and social media ads for 80% off NFL jerseys. After looking at these websites and links the first major red flag would be misspelling of the actual company or not having their name in it at all. When I saw the UPS link via text message, the message said they were UPS but in the URL it doesn’t even have UPS in it. Also for situations like this I would never click the link, I would actually go to the website, log in and check my order history. For the fake NFL jersey website, the thing that popped out to me is the price point of all the merchandise. It just seemed too good to be true. A new NFL jersey now is $129.99 and on the website they were all listed for $34.99. To the trained eye it is pretty easy to see the difference between a fake and real website. Looking to see for misspelling on the website or URL. Having the awareness to notice if the interface of the site seems a little off or if they are trying to sell something, if the deals are too good to be true. My rule of thumb is to not click links from websites that you didn’t request currently.
