SPAN 101

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

LingroHub and my Spanish professor helped me gained an understanding of the Spanish language.

My professor assigns homework on LingroHub every week. I would understand it the assignments most of the time, but there were moments that I would not understand. I had thought that learning Spanish was very easy but there were certain rules that must be followed in Spanish like if you were to call a man comica instead of comico, he would get into a fight with you. I had thought there weren’t any rules in Spanish and I can learn it easily. After taking the class did I gain a bigger perspective of the language.

Engaging in Communities

Engaging with the communities allows you to have a bigger understanding and perspective of the world. There are many different communities in the world and each one is so unique.

Interpersonal Communication

My second Spanish project, I was required to interview one of my classmates about the types of classes they take. It was a partner project, and I also had to be interviewed.

For each one of my projects, I was required to make comments on my classmates projects. I had to tell them what I liked about their project and if we had anything similar to each other. We also had to comment what we think they could improve on. I found commenting on my classmate project a bit difficult since many of us are different from each other. I also found it difficult to tell my classmates what I think they can improve on since we are all just beginning Spanish.

This interview was a bit of a struggle for me since I could not pronounce certain words correctly. My partner and I did mess up quiet a few times but we were able to get the project done. My partner and I kept repeating the questions we would ask over and over again until we felt like we can say it with little mistakes. I learned that it is better to practice and mess up and try again than just to try to wing it. I think having a partner to practice with makes learning a new language easier since they can listen to you and tell you what they feel like you can improve on.

Presentational Speaking

For my fourth Spanish project, I was required to film a video about me talking about three of my favorite place at Old Dominion University. I had to describe the place and explain why they were my favorite place. I also had to say what I did at these places. The link below is a video of the project.

This project was very unique and challenging for me. It put me outside my comfort zone because I would rarely speak Spanish outside the class. I also tried my best to not look at the script I had planned ahead of time to prepare me for my video. I found this project the most challenging out of all the Spanish Project I did.

Presentational Writing

I had created a schedule of what my week would normally look like for my third Spanish project.

Interpretive Listening

My professor had interviewed me three times throughout the semester. Each interview were different

I was interviewed by my Spanish professor and each time the subject of the interview was different. I had understand the questions he ask. He did give us an outline of what kind of questions were in the interview but not which one he would ask. I had to practice and type out an answer for each of the interview questions so I would be prepared for the interview

Interpretive Reading

My classmates would comment on my project in Spanish.

Each project we turned in, My Spanish Professor required us to make comments on our classmates project in Spanish. I had to read it and understand what they are saying to me.
