To be able to cook oneself’ a meal for dinner is a mark of success in one’s life. To be able to walk out, take rosemary from one’s own garden, and finely chop fresh rosemary with one’s own knife is a privilege. Having easy access to a supermarket, in which one can pluck the filet of her desire from the counter, and taking dinner home for her to season with salt, pepper, and fresh herbs is indescribably therapeutic. Hearing that silky, decadent meat sizzle on a grill and watching the outside crust with a beautiful, rich brown is to witness the success of an individual. A meal, a filet whose scent drifts into her nostrils, and calms her into a melted state, whose taste gives readily into a juiced ecstasy, is a mark that she has become independent enough to care for the quality of how her needs are met—and can do so in her own home. This is what one should strive for, and this is the symbol of hope held for a young person’s future. That she may one day be able to wake up, go down her stairs, and decide to cook a meal for dinner.

While negative posts on social media sources are shown to negatively influence a user’s mood, positive posts can also influence a user to feel happier. Sources vary with overall connotations; however, it is also up to the user what media source they use regularly. Facebook, one of the more positive social media sites, offers a wide range of social media services. Some of these can include pessimistic news sources or doomsday pages, but each user’s news feed is determined by the interests of the individual. If a user enjoys tattoos and rock music, and this makes her happy, she can choose to only follow tattoo and rock music fan pages. If someone has a friend who posts increasingly negatively, one can choose to stop seeing this by privately “unfollowing” their friend. Beyond the massive opportunities for individual censorship and catering to specific interests, social media also allows people to stay updated with their friends and family far and near. It updates users on nearby events as well as shows the posts that user’s friends choose to share publicly. This may have a very positive impact on an individual because it allows her to become more involved in local events she may be interested in and to also feel less alienated from her loved ones. Overall, social media can be used in a way that gratifies a user’s quality of life.

The summer between high school and my first fall semester, I prepared for college by working, spending time with family, and ensuring that all the family pets would be well cared for in my absence. The months suspended between May and August felt as though they would never end; yet, looking back, that summer feels like a whirlwind, loaded with the precious moments I now cling to for the comforts of home. Throughout the summer, I worked part time at a local Italian restaurant as their hostess. I saved up everything that I could from my paychecks so that I could bring a few thousand dollars in savings to college. This has allowed me to go out with friends on small outings, buy textbooks and website subscriptions for class, buy school supplies, dorm and personal hygiene supplies, and replace the many necessary clothes which I left back home. It is my intention to work in a medical office this semester while becoming a certified nursing assistant at the local community college. This will allow me to build my resume and replace some of the savings I spent in the 2017-2018 fall and spring semesters. These are some of the themes that I will focus my essay around in order to successfully pass the WSPT and receive a strong grade on my midterm.

For oral presentation two, I will present my major, nursing. I am very confident with my choice of major and I believe that having a plan is a very important part of choosing a career. Knowing the requirements necessary for a career and for a major is vital if a student wishes to graduate and enter the workforce with the most efficient use of time and money. I chose nursing because it is the best option for me to get involved in the health field with a master’s degree. I know that nursing is also a safe career, with no lack of job opportunity anywhere in the nation. Nursing is also a well-paying career. I would advise any incoming nursing major to comprehend that they are in a competition for a place in the nursing graduate school, and they should conduct themselves as such.

Students have been trained to write a certain way since entering primary education. Personal writing-times taught young students to form sentences together, “Brief constructed responses” taught developing sentences to form a well-constructed body paragraph with evidence, and, from that moment on, students have been drilled each year in how to write an essay. Hopefully, each year has offered students new levels of refinement and technique through the guidance of their teachers. The greatest shift that I have known in my writing came with the transition from high school to college. I now write in the way that I feel- earnestly and with the goal of educating my reader about the subject rather than attempting to fabricate something profound. Outside of these journals, I also have consistently adopted the habit of writing assignments in proper essay format for the sake of my professors.
