SPAN 102

Exploring Culture

I would have to say that the products and practices that helped me gain an understanding of the Spanish culture are the differences between roles in the households. For example, everyone has a certain role in the traditional Hispanic house hold but unlike me, that is not the case we are all the same and do the same roles.

I feel like this helps me understand the culture by showing me that people have different roles in their households and that not everyone plays the same role. There are family in the United States that probably have the same roles as a Hispanic family does but most of the families I know has a different traditional household.

Engaging in Communities

I believe that engaging in the community is very important. The reason I say this is because helping out around your community will lead to good karma down the road and eventually someone will do something for you. It always puts a smile on my face when I do community service or just simply help others. I am thankful for all the opportunities that have had to help the community.

Interpersonal Communication

I enjoyed doing TalkAboard and I feel like it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was very cool to hear the Spanish speaker’s ancient and to be able to pick up some of the things we were speaking about. TalkAboard really helped me get out of my comfort zone and made me feel more confident in speaking a different language. I am glad that I had the chance to do two TalkAbroads and learn more about the Spanish culture.

Other interpersonal activities that I have done in Spanish 102 were discussion boards with my classmates, speaking with my teacher in Spanish, and doing video flipgrids. These assignments gave me the chance to interact with my professor and classmates. The most difficult part about these assignments was to not being shy and scared to talk. I overcame this by talking to my friends and family in Spanish to get used to speaking a different language and this also helped me by getting out of my comfort zone as well. I feel as if I excelled in speaking Spanish. The reason I say this is because during Spanish 101 I had a hard time picking up speaking Spanish. I feel way more confident in speaking now because I have practiced and studied more. The only thing I would change is to study the vocabulary and practice the words.

Presentational Speaking

In Spanish 102 I had one presentational speaking assignment. Which was an introduction flip grid. For this assignment, we had to make a video and introduce ourselves to the class and our teacher as well.

Since this was the only video assignment I had to do I would say that the challenge I had was taking the video over and over again. I kept having to do this because I was messing up due to being nervous. I overcame this challenge by repeating what I was going to say multiple times and then after I did this I was ready to take my video.

Presentational Writing

For Presentational Writing In Spanish 102 we had assignments called discussion boards which is where our teacher gives us a question to answer and we reply and have to respond to our classmates.

These writing assignments were very easy to accomplish and it was nice to interact with my classmates since this class is online. The challenging thing about this assignment was making one of your sentences in Spanish. This was challenging because there were times were I didn’t know what I was writing was right. I overcame this challenge by looking up the words I was stuck on to make sure they were spelled right.

Interpretive Listening

I had interpretive listening assignments by the online homework we had which was called lingro learning. For this assignment, we had to listen to the Spanish speaker and answer the question correctly.

For interpretive listing I listened to a lot of recording and videos off of the program lingro learing. I mostly heard people speak in Spanish for these assignments. the hardest part was try to pick up what they were saying. That was definitely the most challenging thing when it came to interpretive listing.

Interpretive Reading

The most reading I had to do was when It came to studying for Spanish. I would have to ready the vocbular and read all about the verbs.

The reading was very easy when it came to studying for the vocabulary but the hard part was learing about all the verbs that go with the vocabulary. That was really challenging at some points. As the class went on I have gotten better with learning the verbs and understanding how they work.
