Week 6 Journal Entries

1. Describe five businesses or non-profits that have been created in my field.

A: Many of the non-profits that have been started in cybersecurity are around individuals who have started cybersecurity consultant firms as entrepreneurs. Another non-profit is the National Cybersecurity Alliance which is an organization set out to make a more secure world. Other cybersecurity businesses include OWASP which is open web application security project that produces free articles for individuals about web and technology security. More non-profits are also out there to provide free resources for cybersecurity awareness and knowledge such as NIST NICE framework.

2. What is your overall perspective on the entrepreneurship experience?
A:  This entrepreneurship experience has been one of the best learning experiences that I have had the chance to receive. I was able to do research regarding an innovation that I really want to pursue further as well as learn about different opportunities that are available for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

3. How did entrepreneurship prepare or not prepare you to be a competitive candidate for vacant positions?
A:  This entrepreneurship experience, I feel, has prepared me to become a competitive candidate for job openings because I learned how to conduct myself as a professional with a business. For example, I feel as though I have my elevator pitch or 30-second quick pitch about my innovation down and I loved learning this way of giving someone information.

4. What suggestions do you have to improve the experience?
A: The only suggestion I would make is possibly having a more detailed description of some of the writing assignments because that was the only part I had questions on. Other than that, this experience has been one I would recommend to anyone going into the workforce after college.

5. What’s next for you?
A: I am going to focus on obtaining my certifications for cybersecurity including security+ and CompTIA. I think that certifications are very important to show potential jobs that my knowledge and skills are universal and can be applied outside of college. I also want to eventually have my own cybersecurity consultant firm.
