Description: IDS300W is a writing-intensive course that examines issues related to interdisciplinary perspectives. Interdisciplinary is defined as relating to more than one area of knowledge or profession such as history, math, science, technology, health, ethics, and more. The main objective of this course is to be able to develop the ability to effectively use critical thinking skills to solve problems as well as develop the ability to use an interdisciplinary approach to solving problems or complex societal issues.
Reflection: Personally, this course helped me advance my understanding of taking an interdisciplinary approach to a complex issue that has the potential to involve more than one discipline, or area of knowledge. I enjoyed this class because it encourages students to engage in “outside-the-box” thinking techniques with not only peers but also in research. In this class we were assigned multiple assignments that involved the Interdisciplinary research method as well as best approaches to bias in research and considering all perspectives on an issue. Our final term paper was a 6-page research paper based on an interdisciplinary question/topic or issue. I chose to focus my research on ways the U.S. contributed to the growth of cybersecurity education and knowledge and how does it continue to do so. Cybersecurity, as we know, is an interdisciplinary topic that is relatable to everyone who uses technology. In my paper I focused on the perspective of cybersecurity education from the disciplines of psychology, sociology, education, and education technology. Below is my full research paper for IDS300W.
