Students will develop an evidence-based plan to improve 1 outcome measure where benchmarks are not being achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Student Approach to Assignment: <\/strong>I approached this assignment by selecting a hospital where I spent most of my clinical time (Maryview Medical Center), the hospital I will be working at after graduation (WellSpan York Hospital), and one of the top hospitals in the United States (Mayo Clinic Rochester). I wanted to see how a hospital I have experience in would compare to a hospital where I will be working. I then chose Mayo Clinic Rochester because I was curious how one of the nation&#8217;s top hospitals would compare to lower-ranked hospitals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reason for Inclusion of the Assignment in the Portfolio: <\/strong>This is included in my portfolio because it demonstrates my ability to use research to help hospitals improve their plan of care. I also learned a lot about conducting research and comparing data while completing this assignment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Domain 5: Quality and Safety<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>End of program learning outcome 16: Identify sources and applications of national safety and quality standards and hospital standards of practice to guide nursing practice. (Domain 5) (5.1, 5.2)\n<ul>\n<li>Using information from Medicare and CDC, I examined outcomes measures for ED wait times, pneumonia mortality rates, heart failure readmissions, and sepsis care. This data was compared between three hospitals: Maryview Medical Center, Wellspan York Hospital, and Mayo Clinic Rochester. The found data was then compared to the national average.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Domain 5, 7: Quality and Safety, System-Based Practice<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>End of program learning outcome<strong> <\/strong>29: Interpret benchmark and unit outcome data to inform individual and microsystem practice. (Domains 5, 7) (5.1, 5.2,7.1,7.3)\n<ul>\n<li>When interpreting my data, I found that all three were below the national average on sepsis care, two were below the national average for heart failure readmission rate, two were above average for pneumonia death rate, and two were above average in ED wait times.
