Protecting Availability

  • If I were a CISO for a public trade company the protections I would implement to ensure availability for my systems would be to first improve my physical infrastructure by spreading data across collections so that if one fails not all of the data will me lost. I would speed up recovery times by resolving issues, replacing and even updating my systems hardware if necessary, and restarting the operating systems and database services. I would eliminate corrupted data by taking a business like approach rather than doing it manually because doing it manually takes time and would result in even more damage by the time I would be able to fix the issue. I would establish my formatting and organization by adding a tool that integrates data. I would also put in place a data recovery system to ensure that the users can access their information as they please. As a CISO I would be doing all of this because having data available for my users is important to the success of my business. Not being able to access data would turn away potential users and put my business in a “DO NO USE” category, especially if its a popular platform, which would send my users to my competition. Also it is important for my users to know that their data is safe and has not be compromised.
