Develop a proposal and timeline for your client service project. Aim for 300 words, and use the following headings and subheadings (listed in italics):

  • The Problem: [summarize the problem/need/interest that you plan to address with your client service project, and analyze: who is the intended audience for your project? Who is the secondary audience? What values/opinions do the primary and secondary audience hold?]
  • Project Plan: [Explain in detail how you plan on designing the project; discuss what you plan to create in Adobe InDesign, design elements you envision at this point, how you intend to access this technology to create it (both in and out of the classroom).]
  • Justification: [Discuss why your proposed design is appropriate and effective for addressing the problem you discussed here.]

Timeline: Based on the course schedule, give a detailed work plan of how and when you will complete project components, including a breakdown of individual tasks — when will you collect assets? When will you draft? Edit?]

Proposal and Timeline: Client Service Project

The Problem: Students are often times feeling stressed out and lost when it comes to seeking their degrees/concentrations. That in itself is the overall problem. We really need a document that will summarize all of the content of an English Concentration for English degree seeking students. Overall it is easy to assume that most students want something that is easy to understand, follow, and make happen for themselves. If the document is inaccurate, hard to read or understand, students will have a hard time figuring out what they need to do given the fact that this is already a rather chaotic time for them. The document needs to follow a plan. The entire idea of this is to get students from Point A: college classes preparation to Point D: Graduation. This document should be easy to follow, it should have a good flow to it, and it should most importantly be simple.

Project Plan: For my project, my main goal is to be creative while also balancing a level of simplicity. Not too much, not too little. Because Most students are bouncing back and forth throughout each semester from Spring To Fall, I will be outlining the timeline of the degree a student is seeking, prioritizing when each class is being offered whether it be Spring or Fall. College is based on a generic 4 year plan. Of course there are instances where students graduate early and some who may graduate later however, the outline is created for 4 years. I plan to go by that as it makes the most logical sense. English majors have different requirements from other majors so I will make sure to include a small portion of what students should expect when seeking an English degree/Concentration. When it comes to the courses itself which is the overall matter of the project, I plan to create a section dedicated to Fall classes and a section for Spring classes. Additionally- According to online research, “A prerequisite means a course or other requirement that a student must have taken prior to enrolling in a specific course or program. A corequisite means a course or other requirement that a student must take at the same time as another course or requirement.” This will be important information to explain on the template as well so students gain an understanding of what will be expected of them. I will differentiate between the two seasons by the use of different colors, fonts, bolding, etc. Some courses are only offered in particular semesters so I plan to highlight/bold print those classes. I need to gather all of the course Information from Professor Weddington following the weekend on Canvas which is most important at this point. Once I get all of that in order, I will then being considering how I want to present everything and what platform I wish to use. (Canva, Word, InDesign, etc.)

Justification: Luckily for this assignment, everything being provided is from Professor Weddington so the information is accurate and accounted for. That is most important as accuracy is crucial in this matter. This document should help guide a student from beginning to finish. Sure there are students who do decide to change their majors/minors/concentrations, etc. However, my goal is to help students from the beginning decide what path they want to take and how that will look for the next 4 years. I don’t want the information to be chaotic or confusing. Everything should be clear and concise.

Timeline: In and out of class, I will be prioritizing as much time as possible to work on my project piece by piece. My schedule is pretty chaotic with school, work, and personal instances so I am going to try to work out a plan that is best fit for me. I have also made arrangements to work with students from the class outside of class in the library several days until the project is due. I and a few other students found this to be helpful as these kinds of projects can be rather time consuming. It will be beneficial to bounce ideas off of one another and test to make sure our designs are actually usable. I don’t have a timeline completed by dates right now but my plan right now is to focus on the content first and then work on the extras to make the template pleasing to look at and understandable. I’m not sure what our timeline “should” look like at this point while pre planning for the project as I am not sure what our class meetings will hold! If we will not be given time to work on our projects in class, my timeline will look very different as opposed to if we are given ample time to work on them during class! This is something I would like to discuss in our next class meeting so I know what to expect!
