What experiences, if any, have you had designing and/or developing print or digital documents that integrate words and images (brochures, newsletters, flyers, reports, web sites, etc.)? Please list and describe any projects you have worked on and the technologies used to produce them. What are your expectations in taking this class and what do you hope to accomplish? What, if anything, makes you nervous or unsure in thinking about this class?
In High School, I spent all four years in a yearbook class. Ironically, I worked with the design team on the design portion! I really enjoyed working with fonts, layouts, themes, color schemes, shapes, etc. I would spend much of my time in the class creating page layouts for those who worked with the media team so that they could implement their images onto the page I created. This was a very strategic class but after a while I got really comfortable with document design so I became really passionate about my work! Although I cannot remember exactly what website I had used to edit the yearbook pages, I used a computer to produce and print the work! Additionally, I took a reporting and news writing class in college where I produced digital reports after interviewing people, students, and staff about current events/news on campus. Another class that I took was digital writing. Although I found this class to be somewhat tricky, it was really unique and challenging! I learned how to code and create documents through coding. I was able to design the theme and colors of my document through different ways of coding. I also used a computer to produce this work. This class was really hard for me due to my unfamiliarity with coding but I always did my best! I hope to learn more about layouts, aesthetics, and how to create a professional document with practice and direction. I can tend to be a flustered or anxious learner so sometimes I worry about the quality of my work even if I am right where I need to be! This is usually something I feel when stepping into a new territory of any class, these nerves usually get better with time once I adjust to the class and get into the swing of things! Overall, I am really feeling optimistic about what I will learn in this class and I am really looking forward to all that this course has to offer!
