We live in a world that is filled with dangerous people that are eager to get their hands on information that does not belong to them. There is also limiting budgets when it comes to protections at certain companies. Knowing this, i am airing on the side of additional technology rather than extra training for staff members.
“It’s human nature to be efficient – find the easiest and fastest way to accomplish a task – and that’s often at odds with what needs to be done to keep data and files secure”(Capone). I agree whole heartily with this statement. With that being said, the security implications that we have today were all made by man, including the systems; however, I believe the systems that we use will be better suited for countering cyber threats. The article, “The impact of human behavior on security,” goes into a lot of detail on why things should not be let in the hands of people. We tend to want to creat shortcuts. Shortcuts are the way that people are able to break into systems. “When it comes to effective data security, the most successful solutions are transparent. They work in the background and provide automated, non-disruptive protection of assets” (Capone).
There needs to be more resources put towards an affective system. The hackers are already a step a head of us when it comes to most things. Some people that are put in positions to defend systems are also not fully qualified to do the jobs that they are told to do. This leaves for a lot of room for something to go wrong.
I believe that my budget primarily should go to better technology. This seems like the best long term decision and will make for the best security possible.
