Journal Entry #5

Review the articles linked with each individual motive.  Rank the
motives from 1 to 7 as the motives that you think make the most sense
(being 1) to the least sense (being 7).  Explain why you rank each
motive the way you rank it.

For Money: I say that money is the biggest reason, because money is the reason a lot of things are done especially crime. So, wanting to get more money at any cost is the most understandable.

Recognition: I put recognition as second because people love having their name out there especially when it comes to crime. In the case of Bradley Niblock after he pleaded guilty to his crime and did his time, he now has a job as a web designer. This Is probably because people knew who he was and what he could do.

Revenge: Number 3 goes to revenge because of how common it is for the spread of “revenge porn” and how easy it is to get everywhere with the use of social media. I also put it for number 3 because of how people can get revenge on a former place of work by leaking confidential files or accessing files and changing them especially if access isn’t taken away immediately.

Multiple Reasons: For number 4 I selected this because the article that went along with it gave the reasons money along with recognition and gave ego and revenge further explain why from a study done by Wendy Zamora, who works in malware intelligence.

Boredom: This is number five because of the times they we are in and how coming out of a pandemic we were all stuck in the house with nothing to do but be on out phones and being stuck with phone people can come up with some very unique ways of passing the time and the use of technology can make the possibilities endless. Even if it is on the bad side as with the case of kids and cyberbullying.

Political: I put this one as number 6 because in the articles I can understand why they do what they do and why they feel the need to do so, but I don’t think that going about it in the way they are is the most effective way to get to the goals they are trying to reach. Personally, I believe it causes more problems than it solves.

Entertainment: This is number 7 because in the article the man was selling what was supposed to be public information, so him doing it for him just seems a little pointless and anyone buying it seems like they would be wasting their money, only if it is truly all public information.
