Sports Media “Diet”

Sport media has had big changes in last 5 years. 5 years ago, I was in my first year of college this was also during a time of a big pandemic known as Covid-19. Viewing sports was pretty shaky at this time because the athletes actual participation in the sport was trying to meet the requirements of vaccination and CDC guidelines. This affected the viewership because people were also unable to attend games in person. Don’t get me wrong I knew about sports but I never really got in depth into monitoring sport. It was not until a year or two later when I started to monitor sports more because of sports betting. I often viewed my sports media through the apps and social media. I use to participate in sports betting causing me to watch more so I can make more informed decisions on what I was betting. As time moves and technology evolves I feel like sport media will just keep growing and changing especially now with the addition of the legalization of sports betting. More media may start to use sports betting to promote sports in the next 5 years because it could draw in more audience because it gives someone hope to possibly make money and who dose not like to make money. I think that because everything is constantly changing, sports media has no choice but to change to keep up with the future generations and adapt to the growing times. For example, In the recent 3 years I have become a bowler and I’m working on becoming a professional. Sports media shows itself in bowling because of the many different brands and competitions. typically in sports such as NFL there are one brand that is a sponsor of the sport, For example NFL sponsor is Nike. In bowling there are many different brands that are represented in the sport. If I could change one thing in the sport communication world, it would be to make it and all inclusive app (free), there are sports apps now but there are so many that you have to go to different ones if there was one universal app where it gave the audience the option to set what sports you want to see and only those sports to separate the audience. I feel like having an app like this were you could even interact live with other people watching could be beneficial to the sports media world. The app could also have a feature to interact with others as you are watching the recording of it if people around the world are watching it at the same time as you, to discuss our thoughts and comments. I feel like that would be a nice change/addition to the sport communication world.
