Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Artifacts

A good artifact is a portion or clip of an assignment. It needs to be carefully selected to provide evidence/proof that supports what you are saying in your reflection.

Your reflection will help you determine what that will be. It is a quest for quality. It will represent you academically and professionally, and have personal meaning. It can be written, audio, or video.

At the end, ask yourself if the artifacts best demonstrates your abilities and growth over time.

At the end of your reflection in each section, link or embed the assignment/artifact. If the assignment has multiple pages and seems to overwhelm the section, consider adding just the first page and offering to provide the rest upon request.

Exploring Culture

Through this class or course which ever you prefer I have come across many different tools and assignments that would help me so I can understand Spanish and help me so I could learn the terms and meanings behind most words. The homework assignments that were giving to me during this course was helpful because if you got somethings wrong it would explain why it’s wrong to give me a better understanding of the topic.

These practices helped me understand the verbs and how they fit into the words and make them mean different things. At the start of this course the verbs and knowing which one to input into the word would confuse me. But once I started using contrasena. Which is where we do our homework assignments that give us vocabulary and teach how to use them in a full sentence. Also, some of the assignments that my professor gave to us to do would help me understand the Hispanic culture. From those I could tell that some of the things that they do is similar to my culture. The discussion board three that we did show me how the greetings in some of these countries are different from the traditional things I am used to but that is only for a certain number of greetings some of them are similar to.

Engaging in Communities

I wouldn’t say that I have engaged in a big community that relates to Spanish. But I feel if you do engage in those communities and see how they live and listen to them talk understanding what word mean could be easier if you are hearing more than you are used to.

The closes I have to participating in these communities are going over friend houses and eating dinner with them. Other than that, I have not got a chance to travel and really enjoy the real communities in this world.

Interpersonal Communication

I have done a good amount of discussion boards and Flipgrid’s. During this course I had five different conversations on flip grid or zoom with my professor where I have to answer the module questions and in Spanish. Then with the discussion boards we would either have a question to answer or we had to watch a video and then answer questions about the video. All these assignments related to some type of Spanish or the things we are learning that week.

For starters, when I first started with all these assignments for example the conversations with my professor, I was nervous the first time because I did not really know what to expect. But once I did, I seen that it was not as bad as I thought, and I had to get more comfortable with doing more and more as I got through the semester. Then with the discussions boards I felt that I started off hot and had the hang of them with ease. I never let up with the discussion boards my grades with them stayed up high. Some things that was difficult for me was understanding the verbs and how to use them in a sentence. I feel like I improved with them over the course once I got into the homework’s I feel like that helped me become better with the topic.

Presentational Speaking

This semester I did multiple flip grids. Where I made videos answering questions that was assigned by my professor. These videos will be about the modules that we are working on at that time. For example, conversation three is one of the flip grids that I did. My professor put a recording of herself talking and I had to reply with a video as if we were having a conversation.

In this course I did four different video presentations. They are conversation one, conversation two, conversation three, and conversation four. Each one of these presentations was on different modules. The main thing that challenged me was learning how to use flip gird and add my video to my professor videos to make as if we were having a conversation face to face. When I first did the conversation, I did not really study the module, so I was not prepared for it, so it was challenging for me to go off what’s on my mind. Once I moved on for the next conversation, I started to study more so the work would come more naturally.

Presentational Writing

I would say that my discussion boards were my closes thing to a written presentation in this class. I have not done nothing outside of class that would relate to Spanish. I feel that the discussion boards are good for these sections because they had a good amount of writing that was Spanish related and helped me understand the modules more.

The course consists of four different discussions boards, and they all helped me learn over the course. I feel in each discussion board I started to learn more about the Spanish communities and the Hispanic cultures. Me learning more about the culture made the assignments easier because it made me more comfortable with the language and the culture. Every time, I got a new discursions board all I wanted to do was try and add more details than I did the first time.

Interpretive Listening

In this course the listening activities I have done came from the quizzes that we have done. I also have done listening activities in some of the homework assignments that was assigned in contrasena. All these activities related to Spanish because it would be somebody talking in Spanish, and I would have to translate it to answer the question.

Some things that would be challenging listening to these audios would be trying to understand them because sometimes I tend to get some of the words mixed up. Some of the people talking would say the sentence really fast and would catch me off guard when I came across them the first time. So, for me to overcome this I chose to put in my headphones so I could hear what they were talking about, and it help me understand better since I can hear it more clearly. Each activity I grew better with understanding the words because some of them will have similar words which made it easier for me to translate them.

Interpretive Reading

We did a couple of different interpretive communication activities in this course. Most of the articles we read was meant for just learning more about the Spanish culture. The readings are very helpful for understanding things and events that be takin place in these different cultures.

The main challenging thing that I came across was trying to understand the culture differences. For example, the events that they be celebrating was knew to me I have heard of some of the parades before in movies but have never seen real life examples or videos of the events. From the reading I was mostly able to take away a wider range of understanding of the Hispanic culture.
