I met my penpal last night in my sports management class my professor invited a guest speaker by the name of Chuck Thornton, Not only is he now a sports facility manager he’s also an entrepreneur within the Norfolk and VA beach area. After his speech during class he left me eager to start taking action as he explained getting your foot in the door wouldn’t be easy as well as climbing your way through the ranks, but I’ve always been a hardworking and determinate person. Chuck is an owner of a couple business ventures including TK foods as well as Virginia Beach Sports-plex. he shared with me that his approach to getting his foot in the door was sort of an unconventional way, after college him and his friends opened up a sports bar which allowed him to not only make a connection within the community but this helped him reach out to other people in the industry who were now a little more familiar with him. I reached out to Chuck from his business card he’d left in class yesterday I started by introducing myself and how I got into contact with chuck, he immediately seemed ecstatic that I was their for the speech he gave as well as reaching out to him. we then began to talk about my career path he asked me all sorts of questions but he made sure specially what my interests are to figure out a way that could be beneficial for myself, I couldn’t be more ecstatic after we got off the phone this could very well be a great opportunity for myself to get into the sports communication world and to be surrounded by successful people who’ve already thrived within but more importantly im happy to be making new connections as I move further with getting into my field of study and hopefully soon a new career.
