Oxidative phosphorylation is a process in our cells where electrons are transferred from NADH and FADH2 (generated during the Krebs cycle) to oxygen (thereby reducing it, and also generating ATP) across several protein complexes in the mitochondria known as the electron transport chain. The stepwise passing of electrons from one complex to the next complex helps generate a H+ gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane which eventually powers ATP synthesis via ATP synthase. #biologytok #biologyclass #apbio #apbiology #biologymemes #premed #fypシ #biochem #mitochondria #CapCut

When first learning about cells in school, they gave brief descriptions of each organelle in the cell. The mitochondria were known as the organelle that made the energy for the cell, the powerhouse. After learning more about mitochondria in college, the mitochondria do not make energy for the cell, it converts molecular bonds into usable energy. What I loved about this meme was that it showed how the cat was hearing nonsense from the goat, and it return it responded with “huh?” It’s very accurate to how I felt when I was learning how the mitochondria works, which is partially the reason why I chose this meme. The other reason I chose this meme was that the background has a diagram of the electron transport chain with labeled parts, which shows the complexity of the mitochondria that I am now far too familiar with.
