One way that immunology related to my other coursework would be how it tied into my anatomy course. While my anatomy course went over the different areas and tissues of the body, immunology went more in depth on the specific cells. An instance of this was when we went over GALT, gut associated lymphoid tissue. In anatomy, we discuss how the gastrointestinal wall is composed of epithelial tissue and the lamina propria, which both layers are discussed in immunology as well. Immunology went over the importance of the lamina propria, as it houses majority of the intestinal immune cells. Immunology also discussed how important mucus is to protecting our intestines from pathogens, being produced by goblet cells and containing IgA, which is the antibody on the front lines for our immune system. Immunology helped me better understand anatomy, as well anatomy helped me better understand immunology.
